Since there are specific qualifications to be able to enter a junior college, students need to know the requirements for the admission. There are two ways to get into this education level. To be admitted into a junior college, a student can take the Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE). With Singapore-Cambridge GCE ‘O’ Examinations scores, students can apply for the admission. There is also the Direct School Admission (DSA) in which students will be considered for admission based on their talents. If a student takes the JAE for the admission, students need to compete nationally. Their academic scores will determine their opportunity in the competitions to be admitted into certain junior college.

There are some colleges that participate in the program DSA-JC. It is necessary to check the website containing information of the DSA-JC schools. It will allow you to learn more about the application dates, focus areas, criteria and the process of the selection. Schools can choose students according to their achievements and talents in academic and non-academic areas. They will conduct tests, trials or interviews if required. If a student is given an offer by a college, he or she should meet the eligibility criteria for the admission based on the result of GCE ‘O’ Level examination. After accepting a DSA offer, it is not allowed to participate in the JAE. If the students cannot meet the admissions criteria for the JC, he or she is allowed to participate in the JAE to seek admissions into MI (Millennia Institute), ITE or polytechnic. It is also important to note that after being successfully admitted to a junior college through the DSA, a student cannot request for a school change since he or she is expected to honour the commitment to the school.

If you are an international student who holds other than GCE ‘O’ Level qualification, it is also possible to participate in the DSA-JC exercise. You only need to meet the age requirement for the level and pass the entrance tests conducted by the college. For you who wish to apply for certain elective programmes, you should search for information whether or not the institution has the programmes. Additionally, make sure that it also has incorporated the elective programmes’ eligibility criteria as part of the admission requirement. To confirm acceptance of the DSA-JC Phase 1 Offer, students have to complete and sign two copies of the acceptance forms and return them to the college. In addition, you can accept a DPA (Direct Polytechnic Admission) Offer if it is a preferred choice over the DSA Phase 1 Offer. If you have accepted a DSA-JC Phase 1 Offer, you can still change your mind as long as it is during the Acceptance stage. You can submit a 1-JC Phase Cancellation Form. The cancellation itself should be done at the Ministry of Education (MOE) Customer Service Centre before the Acceptance Stage Phase 1 ends. Here are the documents you need to bring:

• The offer letter from the JC

• The endorsed acceptance form submitted to the JC

• The NRIC or Student Pass for verification
